Wednesday afternoon saw the worst of the autumnal weather take hold as the U13 Rugby team made the short journey to Forres Sandle Manor for our first rugby fixture of the year. The heavens opened just as the game kicked off but it did nothing to dampen the spirit and competitive edge the game was played with.
Early exchanges saw our players learning quickly as contact situations were negotiated. Mr. Padfield and the FSM teacher were on pitch coaching throughout which provided some guidance alongside all players and seemed to enhance the quality of play in what were particularly horrendous conditions.
Our team took an early two try lead with some strong running and tackling on show. FSM came back with a score of their own to go into half time at 2 tries to 1. Our team fought unwaveringly throughout the second half with many notable performances. The boys were immensely proud of their team efforts to finish up as 4-2 winners of the match. Perhaps the most pleasing thing to see was the pride and confidence in each other that our team ethic fostered throughout. If it were appropriate they should all be men of the match with Kaden, Enrique and Sam taking some of the headlines. Overall it is definitely worth recognising the man of the match award was well deserved for Rohan for his 100% tackle record and unflinching defence on the right wing.
We can’t wait for next week! (If the boys’ boots have dried out by that time)
