On a blazing hot summer’s afternoon, Moyles Court’s U – 11’s proved that hard work pays off and that they have all, to a man, made great improvements since the start of the cricket season.
Jack and Alex opened the batting and showed patience as they dealt well with a quick and strong opening bowling partnership. Once Jack was dismissed Harrison came to the crease but had to retire hurt two balls later after receiving a vicious beamer straight to the side of his helmet.
Bobby and Lewis were out quickly to the same quick bowler, but Evan played some tremendous shots during a brave innings that saw him refuse to be intimidated by the lively pitch and the fast bouncers flying inches past his nose. Tommy and Rohan also played well and Alex batted throughout the innings to help leave Moyles Court with their best ever total of 58 off the full 16 overs.
When bowling Jack got two wickets in two balls, and Moyles Court took numerous catches in the field, not dropping or missing a single opportunity that also included two run outs. Lewis and Tommy worked hard behind the stumps and showed improved concentration and technique. Harrison returned from his injury to bowl well, and he formed good partnerships with Evan and Bobby. Adam and Abdul also fielded well and were valuable additions to the team.
Finally, with several wickets down and just a few overs remaining, the opposition formed a tremendous partnership and just scraped over the line with a few balls to spare. Despite not winning, Mr Hosking couldn’t be prouder of the U11 team, their improvements, sporting attitude and desire to support each other. They deserved to win, but sometimes a close loss, played in the right way, can be even more satisfying than an easy win.
