Moyles Court U11s certainly saved ‘the best to last’ as they went on to win their last game of the season against Durlston Court. It was a thrilling match, played under clear blue skies and within the beautiful trees of the paddock. Moyles won the toss and elected to field first on a hot day and Durlston got off to a great start, scoring quickly off the first five overs. However, Danny was then introduced into the bowling attack and picked up a vital wicket with just his second ball. At the other end, Evan slowed the run rate down with some tight and accurate bowling and in the next over, Danny picked up his second wicket by clean bowling the other opening batsman. Sam hopped on to tease the opposition with his off-spin and bamboozled one of them to take his first wicket of the match. Some big hitting from the Durlston captain late in their innings saw them reach a total of 79-3 from their 16 overs.
In reply, the established opening partnership of Jack and Ben got off to their usual flying start with some brilliant running between the wickets. Eventually, Jack went for one quick single too many and was run out by a brilliant piece of fielding. At the half way stage the scores were identical and it was clear a tight finish was on the cards. Moyles then lost two quick wickets, Ben and Charlie falling to some more good fielding and this brought Evan and Freddie together with six overs to go and 45 runs needed to win. They slowly started to pick up the run rate, but with three overs to go, 26 runs were still required. With boundaries needed the boys delivered; first Evan smashing three fours in one over and then Freddie adding two of his own. In the end, just one run was required off the final over and Freddie dispatched the first ball to take Moyles Court to a stunning six wicket victory. What a way to finish the season!
Evan for his excellent ‘all-round’ performance with bat and ball.
