Welcome to Moyles Court, an independent boarding school located in the New Forest – an area of outstanding natural beauty just 90 minutes away from London Heathrow airport. During the summer months of July and August the school hosts its own summer school and students come from all over the world to improve their English and to begin communicating with confidence. In addition to English lessons, students participate in a wide range of sports & activities and also visit some of England’s most famous cities & attractions on supervised excursions.

Activities and Excursions

A significant part of the summer school programme are the activities and excursions that occur outside of lessons. Every activity and excursion is designed to ensure students are learning as much English as possible, and every day there is one full-school activity where students are mixed by nationality and placed into teams or groups. These full-school activities work as ice-breakers which help the new students transition into the summer school as easily as possible. Treasure hunts, quizzes, campfires and the mini Olympics ensure students begin to socialise with new students from all over the world.

There are also a variety of sports on offer every day including football, tennis and basketball. Teams are mixed at all times and there is even the opportunity for students to socialise with local British students who are invited to the school to join our activities and excursions. This is a great way for students to gain further confidence in their spoken English. Our location means that students also have lots of opportunities to try some adventurous and exciting activities such as sailing, horse riding*, rock climbing, and orienteering.

Our excursions take students to exciting places across the south of England, such as London, Brighton, Oxford, Bournemouth, Bristol, Bath and Stonehenge. These excursions occur twice a week and involve an educational activity or visit which students learn about before visiting, and write about when they return. Students are fully supervised by an adult on these excursions and also have some time for shopping or visiting other places of interest.

Students stay in our boarding school accommodation in rooms of 2 – 5 students. Students are always placed into rooms based on a strict criteria which take into consideration their gender, age, nationality and spoken languages. They receive three meals a day and there is a healthy variety of food and a vegetarian option at each meal. We are able to cater for all diets and allergies so please inform us of any requirements.

Useful information

Pocket money: when students arrive at the school, their money and passports are collected along with any other valuables they would like to keep safe. On the day before an excursion students can withdraw some of their pocket money to take with them or spend at the school shop. When students depart the school they are given their passport, along with any pocket money they haven’t spent.

Airport transfers: the school arranges airport transfers for students and can provide a supervised collection service for any students travelling as ‘unaccompanied minors’. We can arrange to collect students from most major airports. Transfer costs are not included in the fees so please ask the summer school administration team for costs when making a booking.

Things to bring with you: The location of the school means that there are many opportunities to enjoy spending lots of time outside. For this reason, students must bring comfortable shoes or walking boots, swim wear, sun cream, waterproof clothing and a towel. Students should also bring toiletries such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, etc. Finally, students should bring a small padlock which can be used to keep their things secure.

Medication, dietary requirements and allergies: If students suffer from any medical issues or allergies you must inform the summer school administration team in advance. Medicine will be taken from the student when they arrive and dispensed by a suitably qualified staff member. If student has any particular dietary requirements, please inform the school and they will ensure suitable meals are made available. All of this information can be included on the application form.
