Despite the wet and blustery conditions, Moyles Court U11’s finished their football season in fine style, narrowly losing another wonderfully entertaining contest. The improvement in their all-round performance was clear for all to see as they immediately started to create some good chances. Sam, Charlie and Fin all came close, but none of these chances matched the spectacular bicycle kick from Tommy which just dropped the wrong side of the cross bar. Against the run of play, Avondale saw their first shot on target creep into the back of the net and Moyles went in 1-0 down at half time.
Moyles continued to press in the second half and played some fabulous football in the process. Freddie was having another good game in defence and his clever pass released Charlie on the right, whose brilliant cross into the middle just evaded the diving Fin – what a goal that would have been! Sam continued to torment the hosts defenders and his spectacular volley was well saved by the Avondale keeper. Tommy produced another blockbuster of a shot which whistled past the post, whilst Ben and Jack worked tirelessly in defence. With two minutes to go and Moyles desperately looking for that equalizer, Avondale broke away and put the game beyond reach with a well taken second. However, with that, Moyles immediately pulled a goal back through Fin, setting up a frantic last thirty seconds. Despite not being able to score that second goal, the boys should be enormously proud of the effort and progress they have shown this term. Their coach couldn’t wish for a more committed and enthusiastic bunch of players – well played boys.
Tommy, for the bicycle kick alone, but also for a wonderful effort all afternoon.
