Moyles Court pupils have launched their fundraising campaign to support this charity, which provides specially trained dogs for disabled people. Jenny and Andy Clarke visited the school on 12th November with two Woofability puppies to tell pupils more about how they are trained and the work they do. It takes a total of about two years to train a dog fully. Woofability selects puppies with the right temperament at 6 weeks old, they are socialised by teams of volunteer socialisers who teach them good manners and get them used to the sights and sounds they are likely to encounter during their day to day work. When they are about 18 months old, they return to Woofability for their final training which lasts about 6 months; they are then ready to join a disabled person who will work with them for the next 10 years. Moyles Court pupils have decided via the School Council to raise money in order to help buy, raise and train a puppy for this good cause. By sponsoring a puppy in this way the children will learn about the issues which disable people face, what is involved in training the animals and the entrepreneurial skills of fundraising. £275 was raised on the 12th via a mufti day. Look out for more, fun and exciting events in the near future.
