Moyles Court School was honoured to host the exhibition and presentations of Awards at the annual local Inter-School Photography Competition 2015-16, supported by The Rotary Club of Ringwood.
The competition, entitled ‘Life Through a Lens’, has four categories or age groups: 7 to 11 years old, 12 to 16 years, 17 to 18 years and an Adult category. The participating schools include Moyles Court, Ringwood Junior School, Ringwood Senior School, Poulner Infants School and Downton Primary School. This year 850 entries were submitted and judged.
Stuart Fielder, Head of Photography at Ringwood Senior School comments: “An outlet for creativity amongst young people is such a powerful thing, and the accessibility of Photography in particular holds such democratising appeal.
The opportunity for children from a range of abilities and from a range of schools to compete on an even playing field, and ultimately have their work celebrated on such a wonderful evening is something everybody involved should be hugely proud of. Viewing over 850 entries was never onerous because of the enthusiasm that you could sense in every entry, it was a privilege to be involved.”
The award ceremony and exhibition took place at Moyles Court School on Friday 29th April. Mr Richard Milner-Smith, Headmaster comments: “We were honoured to be asked to host this year’s award ceremony as it a very important event in our school calendar. The quality of the photographs was extraordinary and all the pupils should be very proud of the fact that their work made it to the exhibition.”
Mr Geoff Ridgeway, Past President of The Rotary Club of Ringwood adds: “Stuart has always had great aspirations for this competition and his enthusiasm has proved infectious! The event has certainly blossomed over the last 4 years when it was established – we now have the most amazing inter schools photographic competition, involving 5 schools and 850 entries this year. We are very grateful for the support of our sponsors, the Ringwood Camera Club, Ellingham House Day Nursery and Wessex Photographic and look forward to supporting this competition again next year.”
Georgia Vitty, a pupil from Moyles Court and Runner-up in the age 12-16 age group says: “My Dad got me interested in photography and when I was visiting Blenheim Palace in High Wycombe, I was inspired to get the camera out. Getting through to the final and seeing my photograph displayed at the exhibition was enough for me but then to hear my name being announced as a runner-up in my category was just amazing!”
