Visit from Shung Tak College

Twenty senior school pupils from Shung Tak English College, Hong Kong joined us this last week. Half of them were invited to stay with families of our current pupils whilst the rest enjoyed the hospitality of our girl and boy boarders. Our guests spent two days in lessons, learning alongside Years 8, 10 and 11. Apparently they found mathematics easy but were challenged by the more analytical nature of other subjects, compared to teaching and learning at Shung Tak College.

Mr Towler and Mrs Morrison provided a wonderful afternoon of fun and sport, teaching them to play cricket! Another afternoon of training, again thanks to Mr Towler, allowed the Shung Tak pupils to join many from Moyles Court at a competitive orienteering event in the Forest on Saturday. Well done to Callum’s team for coming third!

Our visitors paid for and hosted a Chinese Banquet on Saturday night to celebrate Chinese New Year. Other activities included lantern making, trips to Oxford, Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral and Sandbanks. Hyde Church hosted the boarders’ service on Sunday morning, during which the Lord’s Prayer was recited in Cantonese by our friends from Shung Tak.

The atmosphere in school this week has been exciting, full of friendship, fun and curiosity as Moyles Court and Shung Tak students have learned so much about each other. I thank especially our host parents and boarding staff for providing such caring hospitality. The Shung Tak Deputy Head, Brenda and her colleague Graham who have accompanied the students have appreciated the kindness and welcome of the Moyles Court community throughout, presenting the school with some beautiful souvenirs of their stay.

Mr Meakin, Headmaster, comments: “I anticipate a return visit by Moyles Court pupils to Shung Tak College in future, where I am sure a warm welcome awaits anyone wishing to take part.”
